I have been hard at work with LAIKA yet again to help with another stop motion animated feature film! It's called The Boxtrolls, here's what it's about: 

It's going to be an awesome film and we're all really excited about it. The only bad part is that it doesn't come out for another year. But to hold you over until then, here is the official teaser trailer!

Since I'm going all out updating the new site, here's a piece I didn't have a previous post about. It's a little embarrassing, but better late than never, right? 

The piece was done for Bitch Magazine's Pulp Issue. Similar to the Portland Mercury piece done several years ago, the subject was chosen by the readers. It features Emily Dickinson fighting a tentacled monster in a swamp, with the help of laser-eyed sloths. I think the piece came out great and it was one of their most popular covers ever! Despite my poor promotion on this site :(

Like I said, better late than never! 

There is now a new way to contact me! Please use the Contact Info tab and you can send me an email directly through my site! This cuts out the middle man of Outlook/Mac Mail/Gmail or any other email application you may use and passes the savings on to you! 

However, if you happen to have a strong relationship with your middleman email program of choice, you can still contact me at [email protected] or use the button at the bottom of the Contact Info section.

Hello all! Zubko.com has been overhauled and is brand-new. I know, it looks almost exactly the same, but there are small improvements that will hopefully work to create a little better experience behind the scenes. 

The only downside that I can see so far, is that all my previous blog posts now have today's date stamp. I could go back and manually change these, but unfortunately I'd be guessing at the dates. So I will leave them this way for now. 

The upside is that because it will be a million times easier for me to update this site, hopefully that means I will do it more often! It's my intention to post more about what I've been working on in my spare time for fun, as opposed to just published work. I am still with LAIKA on their feature The Boxtrolls, so free time is a little limited. But I have been working on various things and intent to share them here.

Finally, more news! It’s been forever since I’ve updated this site, and it’s not because I haven’t been busy. Just the opposite, actually. First up, I did an illustration for the cover of this week’s Willamette Week. If you are in the Portland area, you know this as the weekly paper you can find everywhere around town. If you aren’t from Portland, you can read it here. And for your viewing pleasure, here is the illustrated cover:

In other news, I also illustrated a cover for Bitch Magazine, another Portland based publication. I can’t share the image now, but look for it to hit the news stands in the next month or two.

Also, you may know from one of my last posts that I was working with Laika on their feature length animated film, ParaNorman. Since then, the film has been completed, released, and nominated for an Academy Award! I have been hard at work with Laika on their next film, and hopefully it will be announced soon so that I can share more information with everyone.
